The Sri Lankan government has issued a stern warning that anyone attempting to threaten public officials or obstruct ongoing investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks will face legal action.

Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said authorities would not hesitate to present evidence before the courts against individuals found engaging in activities aimed at disrupting the investigative process.

“The facts relating to such actions will be reported to the court,” Dr. Jayatissa stated, emphasizing the government's commitment to ensuring that the investigation proceeds without interference.

The warning comes amid growing political tensions and renewed public debate surrounding the probe into the devastating Easter Sunday bombings of April 21, 2019, which claimed the lives of 278 people and injured hundreds more.

As investigators continue to pursue new leads, concerns have emerged over alleged attempts to influence, intimidate, or derail the investigation. Addressing the issue, Dr. Jayatissa pointed to what he described as a sudden increase in unrest following recent legal developments, including the imposition of foreign travel bans on several individuals.

Among those affected by the travel restrictions is former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. According to the minister, the timing of the reactions raises questions about the motives behind the unrest.

“The unrest and noise that was not seen during the more than 90 days Suresh Salley was in custody has now suddenly been created following the imposition of foreign travel bans on three individuals, including Gotabaya Rajapaksa,” Dr. Jayatissa said.

“It is clear that a certain group is acting with an agenda in this regard,” he added.

The government has reiterated its determination to uncover the full truth behind the Easter Sunday attacks and hold all responsible parties accountable, while ensuring that the judicial process remains free from external pressure or interference.
