In a swift response, the Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to rescue 03 crew members and their fishing trawler stranded in the northern waters on 07 Jun 26. The trawler had run into distress due to adverse weather conditions, which disrupted its communication with the mainland.

Following an urgent notification from the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo, the Navy was promptly alerted to launch a search and rescue mission.

Responding to the call for assistance, the Navy deployed its craft to conduct a search and rescue operation spanning 06 and 07 June. Having located the distressed trawler and its 03 fishermen in the seas off Analaitivu Island, naval personnel managed to rescue the crew unharmed and rendered towing assistance to their fishing trawler, to the mainland.

Meanwhile, the Navy, along with the coordination of MRCC Colombo, remains constantly prepared to swiftly respond to the eventualities faced by maritime and fishing communities operating within the island's Search and Rescue Region (SRR).
