The allowance distribution program was held at the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, where symbolic awards were presented to 100 student athletes.
Under the scheme, each selected athlete will receive a monthly allowance of Rs. 10,000 from March to December, amounting to Rs. 100,000 per beneficiary over the course of the program.
Beneficiaries were selected based on their performances at the 2025 National School Games, provincial competitions, and international sporting events.
Speaking at the event, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage said the Government is committed to supporting talented athletes and ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their sporting careers.
The Minister stated that the Government is prepared to provide the necessary assistance and facilities required for athletes to continue their development, adding that no promising sportsperson should be forced to abandon their ambitions due to economic difficulties or a lack of resources.
