The Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens has received 10 new electric vehicles aimed at improving visitor convenience and promoting tourism at one of Sri Lanka's most visited attractions.

The vehicles were handed over under the patronage of Deputy Minister of Environment Anton Jayakody as part of a government-funded initiative to strengthen facilities available at the gardens.

Officials said the project was launched to address a long-standing transportation need within the expansive premises and would enable both local and foreign visitors to explore the gardens more comfortably through an environmentally friendly mode of transport.

The introduction of the electric vehicles is expected to improve accessibility across the gardens, which attract thousands of visitors annually, while supporting sustainable tourism initiatives.

Kandy District MP Thanura Dissanayake, Director General of the Department of National Botanic Gardens Chandrika Jayawardena, and several senior officials of the department attended the event.
