Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath attended as the chief guest at the launch ceremony of WEAIR Cargo Operations held on June 6, 2026, at the Kingsbury Hotel in Colombo.

WEAIR, a Sri Lanka–based cargo airline, is set to connect Colombo with key destinations across South Asia, South West Asia, the Indian Ocean region, the Middle East, and Africa, strengthening regional air cargo connectivity and trade links.

Addressing the event, Minister Herath described WEAIR’s entry into Sri Lanka’s aviation and logistics sector as a significant investment that will enhance the country’s air cargo capacity and regional connectivity. He noted that the initiative reflects growing international confidence in Sri Lanka’s economic potential and strategic geographic position.

Supported by Luxembourg-based IOTC investments, the project is expected to contribute to Sri Lanka’s ambitions of becoming a regional logistics hub. It will also strengthen supply chain networks linked to trade, exports, tourism-related logistics, and cargo transportation.

The Minister further highlighted the potential of the venture to generate employment opportunities and support the development of the aviation and logistics industries.

The event was attended by representatives of WEAIR, investors, industry stakeholders, and officials from the aviation and logistics sectors.
