The Department of Meteorology says that strong winds are expected in several parts of Sri Lanka due to the prevailing active southwest monsoon conditions affecting the island.

According to a weather advisory issued at 3:30 p.m. on June 7, wind speeds of around 40–50 km/h may occur at times in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Northern, and North Central Provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee and Hambantota Districts.

Meanwhile, other areas of the country may also experience fairly strong winds with speeds ranging between 30–40 km/h from time to time.

The Meteorology Department noted that the advisory will remain in effect until 3:30 p.m. on June 8 and urged the public to take necessary precautions against strong winds and related weather conditions.
