The Government of Sri Lanka has published a draft bill to establish the Chartered Institute of Media Professionals, marking a significant step towards enhancing professionalism and standards within the country's media sector.

According to the draft legislation published in the Government Gazette on June 5, the proposed institute will be established as a statutory corporate body with the authority to promote and uphold professional excellence among media practitioners.

The initiative aims to introduce, elevate, and maintain high professional standards across Sri Lanka's media industry while contributing to the development of a skilled and accountable media workforce.

The proposed Chartered Institute of Media Professionals is expected to serve as a professional body dedicated to advancing knowledge, ethics, training, and professional development within the media sector.
