The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber Advisory warning of strong winds affecting several parts of Sri Lanka due to active south-west monsoonal conditions.

The advisory, which was issued today (June 4), will remain in effect until 3:30 p.m. tomorrow (June 5).

According to the Meteorology Department, strong winds of 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Northern, and North Central Provinces, as well as the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

In addition, fairly strong winds of 30-40 kmph are likely to prevail at times in other parts of the island.

Authorities have advised the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to minimize potential damage caused by strong winds, particularly in vulnerable areas.

The active south-west monsoon continues to influence weather conditions across the country, bringing windy conditions to many regions. Residents are urged to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology.
