Sri Lankan javelin thrower Rumesh Tharanga has achieved a historic milestone by climbing to fifth place in the men’s javelin throw world rankings.

Tharanga moved up two places in the latest rankings, earning an Average Performance Score of 1,287 following a series of impressive performances on the international stage.

The rise comes after the Sri Lankan star secured a silver medal at the Rabat Diamond League in Morocco on June 1 with a throw of 85.97 metres.

Germany’s Julian Weber currently tops the world rankings, while Tharanga’s achievement places him among the elite five javelin throwers in the world and marks a significant moment for Sri Lankan athletics.
