Traffic restrictions announced at Nawammahara railway crossing

The Department of Railways has announced temporary traffic restrictions at the Nawammahara railway crossing near Horape Sub Railway Station on the Main Line to facilitate essential renovation and maintenance work.

According to the Railway Department, vehicular movement will be restricted on the following dates:

June 5, 2026 – From 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. – Partial traffic restrictions

June 6, 2026 – From 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. – Complete closure of the railway crossing

June 7, 2026 – From 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. – Partial traffic restrictions

Motorists traveling through the area are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and make use of alternative routes, particularly on June 6 when the crossing will be fully closed to vehicular traffic.

The Department of Railways expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and emphasized that the maintenance work is necessary to ensure the safety and reliability of railway operations.

Authorities have requested the public’s cooperation during the renovation period and urged drivers to follow traffic guidance and road signs in the vicinity of the crossing.
