Brent crude, the main benchmark for oil prices worldwide, was up $1.41, or 1.5 percent, at $97.41 a barrel just after 13:00 GMT, Reuters reports.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average meanwhile fell 86.9 points, or 0.17 percent, at market open to 51,220.92.
The S&P 500 fell 4.5 points, or 0.06 percent, at open to 7,605.31, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.1 points, to 27,092.845.
