11 missing, 44 rescued after fire at Horana elders’ home

At least three persons have been reported missing and more than 50 others have been rescued following a major fire that broke out at an elders’ home in the Anguruwatota area of Horana today.

According to police, 50 residents have been rescued

Emergency response teams, including three fire trucks and multiple firefighters, were deployed to the scene and are continuing efforts to bring the blaze under control. Search and rescue operations are also underway to locate three individuals who remain unaccounted for.

Authorities stated that the remains of several burn victims have been observed inside the facility, raising fears that the death toll could rise as rescue and recovery efforts continue.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and investigations are expected to commence once the situation is fully contained.
