Police said the blaze originated in a warehouse of a textile factory located near Sudupala Bridge in the Nonaagama area.
Emergency services reported that the affected workers were quickly evacuated and admitted to Embilipitiya Base Hospital for medical treatment. Hospital sources say several of them are being closely monitored due to the extent of smoke inhalation.
Firefighting teams from Sevanagala and Embilipitiya have been deployed and are continuing efforts to bring the blaze under control. Authorities are also investigating the cause of the fire.
