The Department of Meteorology says weather conditions are expected to become wetter across the southwestern parts of the country from tomorrow (03), with enhanced rainfall forecast over the next several days.

Showers and thundershowers are predicted in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western Provinces, along with the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya.

The Department noted that some locations in these areas could receive heavy rainfall of more than 100 mm.

In addition, strong winds with speeds of between 40 and 50 kilometres per hour may affect parts of the island from time to time.

Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution and take appropriate safety measures to reduce risks associated with lightning strikes, strong winds and adverse weather conditions.
