The government has imposed an immediate ban on the purchase and use of single-use plastic water bottles across all state institutions as part of efforts to reduce plastic waste and promote environmentally sustainable practices.

The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government has issued a special circular directing government institutions to discontinue the procurement and use of disposable plastic water bottles with immediate effect.

The circular further instructs heads of government institutions to take necessary measures to eliminate the use of other single-use plastic items within their respective organisations.

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader environmental sustainability programme aimed at minimizing the adverse effects of plastic waste on the environment.

Under the new directive, state institutions are expected to shift towards reusable and environmentally friendly alternatives.
