According to preliminary reports, a cab traveling through the Meegoda area in Homagama veered off the road and struck a group of people who were standing in a queue near a Vesak Dansala. Following the collision, the vehicle reportedly fled the scene.
The injured victims were rushed to the Homagama Base Hospital for treatment. Hospital sources stated that at least 12 people were admitted with injuries, while six victims, including three women, later succumbed to their injuries.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to identify and locate the driver involved. Further details regarding the cause of the crash and the identities of the victims have not yet been released.
