Authorities have announced special traffic arrangements around Veyangoda due to a Vesak cultural zone organized in the town on May 30 and 31.

The Vesak zone activities, including lantern displays, Buddhist devotional song programs, almsgiving stalls, and traditional lantern exhibitions, are expected to draw a large number of visitors to the area. As a result, significant traffic congestion is anticipated along the Katunayake–Nittambuwa Main Road between 6.00 p.m. and early morning on both days.

Police have urged motorists and the public to use alternative routes during these peak hours to avoid delays and congestion.

Recommended alternative routes:

Vehicles traveling from Kandy and Avissawella towards Katunayake are advised to divert via Pasyala Junction, then proceed through Mirigama, Divulapitiya, and Minuwangoda before reaching Katunayake.

Motorists traveling from Kirindiwela and Yakkala towards Katunayake via Veyangoda are advised to reroute through Gampaha, Udugampola, and Seeduwa.

Vehicles traveling from Katunayake towards Veyangoda and onward to Avissawella and Kandy are advised to use the reverse diversion through Minuwangoda, Divulapitiya, Mirigama, and Pasyala, and continue towards Warakapola or Pasyala Junction.

Police have requested all road users to cooperate with these temporary traffic arrangements to ensure smooth flow during the Vesak celebrations.
