Electricity supply has been temporarily interrupted in several parts of the island, including Colombo, following an unexpected system imbalance within the national power grid, according to Energy Minister Anura Karunathilaka.

The minister stated that authorities have taken immediate steps to stabilize the power system and are working to restore electricity to affected areas as quickly as possible.

He explained that the temporary disconnection of power in certain regions was implemented as a precautionary measure to balance the grid and prevent further instability within the electricity network.

Restoration efforts are currently underway, with technical teams monitoring the situation and gradually reconnecting affected areas as system conditions improve.

Officials have assured the public that every effort is being made to return the power supply to normal operations at the earliest opportunity. Further updates are expected as restoration work progresses.
