Health authorities in Sri Lanka have reported approximately 200 suspected cases of meningitis, commonly known as “brain fever,” according to officials.

Speaking at a press briefing held today (27) at the Health Promotion Bureau, Dr. Thushani Dabarera, a specialist in community medicine from the Epidemiology Unit, stated that around 50 patients are currently receiving treatment in hospitals across four districts.

Health officials continue to monitor the situation closely as investigations and medical management efforts are underway to control the suspected outbreak.

Authorities have not yet released further details on the cause of the infections or whether laboratory confirmations have been completed. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
