Accordingly, relevant authorities have been instructed to ensure the closure of all animal slaughterhouses and meat stalls islandwide, while the sale of meat in supermarkets will also be suspended on May 30, May 31 and June 1.
The Ministry further stated that betting centres, casinos, liquor stores and nightclubs will also remain closed during the same period.
Meanwhile, Vesak Week has been declared from May 27 to June 2 in connection with the 2026 State Vesak Festival organised to mark the ‘Sambuddhatva Jayanthi’ celebration.
