In a message shared on X ( Formerly Twitter), Premadasa noted that Bangladesh is also seeking a more practical IMF arrangement aimed at reducing the burden on citizens amid the current global economic climate.
He stressed that Sri Lanka should similarly place public wellbeing at the centre of its economic policy decisions.
Premadasa warned against allowing economic policymaking to become a delayed process where action is taken only after shortages intensify, prices continue to increase and families face greater financial hardship.
He further stated that the duty of leadership is to prevent public suffering before conditions become unmanageable, urging the government to take timely measures while there is still an opportunity to avoid deeper economic difficulties.
