Accordingly, special visiting opportunities will be provided on May 28 and May 30 at all prisons islandwide.
The Department stated that the programme has been introduced to allow inmates to meet their family members and relatives during the festive period under supervised conditions.
Relatives visiting inmates will also be allowed to bring food items and sweets. However, prison authorities have instructed that the quantity of such items should only be sufficient for one inmate.
The Commissioner of Prisons and Media Spokesperson, A.C. Gajanayake said the special arrangements will be carried out in accordance with existing health guidelines and prison regulations.
He further noted that all visiting activities will be conducted strictly under established prison procedures to maintain security and proper order within prison premises.
