The approval was granted during the Constitutional Council meeting held last Friday (22), following a recommendation made by Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Justice Kodagoda, who is currently the most senior judge of the Supreme Court after the Chief Justice, will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of former Supreme Court Justice S. Thurairaja, who previously served as a member of the Judicial Service Commission.
Justice Kodagoda began his legal career at the Attorney General’s Department as a State Counsel. He later served as a Senior Additional Solicitor General before being appointed President of the Court of Appeal. Subsequently, he was elevated to the Supreme Court as a Justice.
The Judicial Service Commission plays a key role in overseeing the administration and functioning of the judiciary in Sri Lanka.
