Over 28,000 people affected by adverse weather in Sri Lanka

More than 28,000 people have been affected by the prevailing adverse weather conditions in Sri Lanka, according to the latest report issued by the Disaster Management Centre.

The report states that a total of 28,933 individuals belonging to 7,482 families have been impacted by the ongoing disaster situation across several districts.

The highest number of affected people has been reported from the Gampaha District, where 15,313 individuals from 3,950 families have been affected. One death has also been reported from the district.

In the Puttalam District, 4,265 people from 1,219 families have been affected, while the Colombo District has reported 4,566 affected individuals from 1,051 families.

Meanwhile, 4,558 people belonging to 1,204 families have been affected in the Ratnapura District. The Kalutara District has recorded 141 affected individuals from 34 families, while 80 people from 20 families have been affected in the Trincomalee District.

In addition, seven individuals from nine families have been affected in the Galle District, while three people from one family have been impacted in the Vavuniya District.

The Disaster Management Centre further stated that the adverse weather has caused two fully damaged houses and 836 partially damaged houses nationwide.

The highest number of housing damages has also been reported from the Gampaha District, where two houses were completely destroyed and 530 houses suffered partial damage, according to the report.
