Landslide warnings issued for six districts amid heavy rains

Amid prevailing heavy rainy conditions, the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued landslide early warnings for six districts across Sri Lanka.

Red Alerts Issued for Immediate Evacuation

Red evacuation notices have been issued for the following areas identified as being at high risk of landslides:

Kegalle District – Deraniyagala, Ruwanwella, Dehiowita

Ratnapura District – Eheliyagoda, Kuruwita, Ayagama, Ratnapura

Residents in these areas have been urged to evacuate immediately and follow instructions from local authorities.

Level 2 Landslide Warnings – Be Alert

Second-level landslide warnings, advising residents to remain highly vigilant, have been issued for:

Colombo District – Seethawaka, Padukka

Gampaha District – Attanagalla

Kalutara District – Bulathsinhala, Horana, Ingiriya, Palindanuwara

Kegalle District – Yatiyanthota

Ratnapura District – Pelmadulla, Kiriella, Elapatha, Kalawana, Nivithigala

Level 1 Warnings – Remain Vigilant

First-level landslide warnings, urging residents to remain watchful, have also been issued for:

Gampaha District – Mirigama, Divulapitiya

Kalutara District – Agalawatta, Matugama

Kegalle District – Bulathkohupitiya

Nuwara Eliya District – Ambagamuwa

Authorities have advised the public in vulnerable areas to stay alert for signs of landslides, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, and closely follow updates issued by disaster management officials.
