Twenty-one wanted criminal suspects, including alleged underworld figures known as “Mahawatta Chamara” and “Kudu Duminda,” were brought back to Sri Lanka from Dubai early this morning under tight security arrangements, according to Sri Lanka Police.

The group arrived at the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport after their flight was diverted from the Bandaranaike International Airport due to adverse weather conditions and heavy rainfall in the Katunayake area.

Police stated that the suspects had been residing in Dubai and were deported following coordinated efforts between Sri Lankan authorities and foreign law enforcement agencies. Several of the individuals are believed to be linked to organized criminal activities and ongoing investigations into underworld operations in Sri Lanka.

Security was significantly tightened at the airport during the suspects’ arrival, with officers from multiple law enforcement units deployed to escort and process the detainees.

Authorities said the suspects will be produced before the courts after preliminary investigations and questioning by relevant police divisions.
