Sri Lanka’s Inland Revenue Department has announced that government tax revenue has exceeded the one trillion rupee mark as of May 18 this year. The department stated that achieving this milestone reflects strengthened fiscal performance and will contribute to improving financial stability and supporting public services. The announcement was made through an official statement highlighting progress in revenue collection.

Meanwhile, inflation in Sri Lanka has shown an upward trend. According to the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI), headline inflation rose to 4.7% in April 2026, up from 2.4% recorded in March. Data from the Department of Census and Statistics also indicate that food inflation increased from 0.7% in March to 1.1% in April.

The latest figures suggest a gradual acceleration in price pressures, particularly in the food sector, alongside improved government revenue performance.
