Sri Lanka’s Department of Irrigation has issued a warning of a possible minor flood risk in areas surrounding the Kalu Ganga river basin due to ongoing rainfall across the region.

Authorities state that rising water levels in the Kalu Ganga are possible if the current wet weather conditions continue. As a precaution, residents living in low-lying areas have been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary safety measures.

The advisory particularly applies to residents in several Divisional Secretariat areas within the Sabaragamuwa Province, including Ratnapura, Kuruwita, Ayagama, Elapatha, and Kiriella.

Officials have warned that if heavy rainfall continues, water levels in the river could rise further, increasing the risk of flooding in vulnerable areas. The public is urged to follow official updates and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
