Aviation sources reported that heavy rainfall and reduced visibility around the airport led to disruptions in landing procedures.
As a result, around six incoming aircraft were redirected to Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport as a precautionary safety measure.
Authorities said the diversions were carried out to ensure safe landing operations amid continuing unstable weather conditions in the region.
