Heavy rainfall has been reported in several parts of the country, with the highest precipitation of 244 mm recorded from Kirindiwela between 8.30 a.m. yesterday and 4.00 a.m. today, according to Sri Lanka’s Department of Meteorology.
The prevailing southwest monsoon conditions have triggered intense showers across the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, with authorities warning of continued heavy rainfall and possible localized flooding in low-lying areas. Residents in vulnerable regions have been advised to remain vigilant and follow updates issued by the relevant authorities.
The Meteorology Department further stated that thundershowers accompanied by strong winds are expected to continue in several districts over the next 24 hours.
