The Sri Lankan High Commission in the Maldives has announced that all Maldivian nationals travelling to Sri Lanka for tourism purposes will be required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) prior to arrival.

According to the special notice, the new regulation will come into effect on May 25, 2026.

Under the updated procedure, travellers must apply for the ETA through Sri Lanka’s official website, eta.gov.lk, before travelling to the country.

The High Commission further stated that Maldivian nationals will continue to receive a 90-day tourist visa free of charge through the ETA system. Travellers are advised to complete the application process at least 24 hours before departure to avoid delays or inconvenience.

The move marks the reinstatement of Sri Lanka’s pre-arrival travel authorization requirement for Maldivian visitors.
