According to a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, the visit marks the first occasion a Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has visited Sri Lanka and is expected to further strengthen the country’s engagement with the regional organization.
During the meeting, both sides discussed enhancing cooperation between the SCO and its partner countries in several key sectors, including tourism, transport and logistics, and agriculture.
Minister Herath also expressed Sri Lanka’s keen interest in participating in SCO initiatives and sought support from the Secretary-General in promoting Sri Lanka as an attractive destination for investment and tourism.
During his visit, Secretary-General Yermekbayev also had constructive discussions with the Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Anura Karunathilaka, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land, and Irrigation K.D. Lal Kantha and Deputy Minister of Tourism Prof. Ruwan Ranasingha.
