322 suspects arrested for drug offences in Sri Pada area during pilgrimage season

Police say that 322 suspects have been arrested for transporting illegal drugs into the Sri Pada area since the beginning of this year’s pilgrimage season.

According to the Police Media Division, the arrests were made during raids conducted by the Hatton Division, including the Hatton, Polpitiya, Ginigathhena, and Nallathanniya Police Stations.

Police stated that a total of 336 raids had been carried out during the period. Following the production of suspects before courts, fines amounting to Rs. 2.65 million were also imposed.

During the raids, police seized a range of prohibited narcotics, including heroin, crystal methamphetamine (“Ice”), cannabis, hashish, kush, mawa, intoxicating pills, and other illegal drugs.
