Director General of Health Services Specialist Dr. Asela Gunawardena said the move aims to ensure that food distributed to the public during the Vesak season is safe, hygienic and of good quality.
He urged all Dansal organisers to consult the Medical Officer of Health or Public Health Inspector in their respective areas to obtain health guidance and complete the mandatory registration process before conducting food distribution events.
Dr. Gunawardena noted that the programme is intended to minimise health risks and maintain proper sanitary standards during the large number of Dansals expected to operate islandwide during Vesak celebrations.
