Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka has raised concerns over what he describes as renewed attempts by certain political groups to create instability in the country.

The former Commander of the Sri Lanka Army said that politicians have repeatedly misled the public by presenting themselves as protectors of the nation, noting that many citizens have previously been influenced by such narratives.

He specifically referred to figures such as Wimal Weerawansa and others with similar political affiliations, accusing them of opportunistic conduct.

Fonseka stated that during the peak of the conflict, when military personnel were engaged in active operations and their families were facing hardship, these individuals did not extend support or empathy.

He further alleged that they neither contributed to the war effort nor provided assistance to those serving on the frontlines.

The Field Marshal added that many families of fallen and injured service members continue to experience difficulties, while those he criticized have failed to show meaningful concern.

He also accused such individuals of attempting to gain political advantage by capitalizing on the military victory achieved through the sacrifices of armed forces personnel, claiming that past leaders linked to them did not ensure justice for war heroes.

Fonseka warned that similar attempts to create division could increase in the future and urged the public to remain vigilant.

He emphasized that ongoing efforts to reintroduce societal divisions could harm both citizens and national stability, calling on the public to reject such narratives and protect the country’s unity and security.
