Jaffna and Galle to clash in opening match of Lanka Premier League 2026

The inaugural match of the Lanka Premier League 2026 will see the Jaffna and Galle franchises face off in a highly anticipated encounter on 17 July at the SSC Grounds.

The opening fixture, scheduled to begin at 7.30 p.m., will feature the champions and runners-up of the 2024 season respectively, setting the stage for an exciting start to the tournament.

Sri Lanka Cricket announced the tournament schedule through an official media release, confirming that the 2026 edition of the league will run from 17 July to 8 August.

Matches will be played across four major venues in the country:

SSC Grounds

Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium

Pallekele International Cricket Stadium

R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium

The tournament will once again be conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket, the owner of the league, in partnership with The IPG Group, which serves as the event rights holder for the competition.

The Lanka Premier League has continued to grow in stature as Sri Lanka’s premier domestic T20 tournament, attracting local and international talent while providing a significant platform for emerging cricketers.
