The Department of Inland Revenue has announced that legal action will be taken against individuals who obtain a TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number) by submitting false or misleading information during the registration process.

According to the department, more than 13 million individuals have already registered for TIN numbers across the country. Officials emphasized that the information provided during registration must be accurate and verifiable, warning that any attempt to misuse the system or provide fraudulent details could result in legal consequences under existing tax laws.

The department further stated that the TIN system is being expanded to strengthen tax administration, improve transparency, and support the country’s revenue collection process. Authorities urged the public to ensure that all personal details, including identification and contact information, are submitted correctly when applying for a TIN.

Officials also noted that investigations may be carried out in cases where suspicious or inconsistent information is detected in applications.
