The Department of Irrigation says that 20 reservoirs under its management are currently spilling due to the prevailing rainy weather conditions across the country.

Among the major reservoirs currently overflowing are the Rajanganaya, Nachchaduwa, and Yan Oya reservoirs in the Anuradhapura District; the Ambewela Reservoir in the Badulla District; and the Lunugamwehera, Tissa Wewa, Weerawila Yoda Wewa, and Weheragala reservoirs in the Hambantota District.

In the Kurunegala District, the Ambakola Wewa, Usgala Siyambalangamuwa, Mediyawa, Magalla, and Deduru Oya reservoirs are spilling. Meanwhile, the Nalanda and Wemedilla reservoirs in the Kandy District are also overflowing.

The Hadapanagala and Alikota Ara reservoirs in the Monaragala District, the Inginimitiya and Tabbowa reservoirs in the Puttalam District, and the Yoda Wewa reservoir in the Mannar District are also reported to be spilling.

The Department of Irrigation has urged residents living in low-lying areas and near riverbanks to remain vigilant due to the increased water levels and potential flood risks.
