Adverse weather damages 141 houses across Sri Lanka

The Disaster Management Centre has reported that 141 houses have been partially damaged across Sri Lanka due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions experienced between May 10 and May 16.

According to the DMC, one house in the Ratnapura District was completely destroyed as a result of the disaster situation.

Among the partially damaged houses, the highest number of incidents was reported from the Kalutara District, where 78 houses were affected.

Other districts reporting damage include:

Batticaloa District – 25 houses

Ratnapura District – 12 houses

Galle District – 6 houses

Colombo District – 5 houses

Smaller numbers of damaged houses were also reported from the Monaragala District, Jaffna District, Gampaha District, Hambantota District, and Anuradhapura District.

The DMC further stated that 4,099 individuals belonging to 1,263 families in 48 Divisional Secretariat divisions have been affected by the ongoing adverse weather conditions across the country.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation while disaster relief and response measures are being coordinated in the affected areas.
