A special bilateral meeting was held at the Ministry premises in the Maldives between Maldives Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Abdulla Rafiu, and Sri Lanka’s Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage.

During the discussion, the two ministers exchanged views on several key areas of mutual cooperation aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly in the fields of youth development and sports.

Special attention was given to formulating a joint programme to enhance the international-level skills and performance of athletes from both nations. The discussions also focused on modern sports technology, coach education and training programmes, and the exchange of technical knowledge and expertise.

In addition, both sides explored opportunities to provide professional support for the development of technical expertise and sports infrastructure in the Maldives.

According to the Ministry of Sports, the diplomatic engagement is expected to create new opportunities for athletes, sports professionals, and youth communities in both countries while promoting long-term progress in youth empowerment and the sports sector.
