The Consumer Affairs Authority says legal proceedings have been initiated against a group of traders in the Marawila area for allegedly selling Samba rice above the government-imposed Maximum Retail Price (MRP).

The action follows a special inspection carried out in the area yesterday ( 14), during which CAA officials identified multiple instances of overpricing on Samba rice.

The Authority stated that court proceedings have now been filed against the relevant traders for violating consumer protection regulations.

Meanwhile, the CAA has urged the public to remain vigilant and ensure that essential commodities, including rice, are purchased in line with the regulated maximum retail prices.
