The Department of Irrigation has warned that minor flooding may occur within the next 48 hours in low-lying areas belonging to the flood plains of the Kuda Ganga and Magura Ganga in the Divisional Secretariat divisions of Bulathsinhala, Madurawala, and Palinda Nuwara.

According to an analysis of water levels recorded at river gauges maintained within the Kalutara River Basin, significant rainfall has been received in the upper catchment areas of the Kuda Ganga sub-basin of the Kalu River, while rainfall continues in the area.

As a result, there is a high risk that secondary roads and access routes running through low-lying areas surrounding the Kuda Ganga and Magura Ganga could become inundated.

Residents living in the affected areas and motorists traveling through these regions have been urged to remain highly vigilant and exercise caution.

The Department of Irrigation has also requested disaster management authorities to take the necessary precautionary measures in response to the developing situation.
