Sri Lanka Customs has surpassed a major financial benchmark, with total revenue collections for the year exceeding Rs. 1.1 trillion, reflecting strong import activity and improved tax administration.

According to an announcement issued yesterday, the department has collected a total of Rs. 1.18 trillion so far this year. Officials noted that Customs had consistently outperformed its monthly targets over the past four months, achieving more than 130 percent of expected revenue during each period.

The highest monthly performance was recorded in April, when Sri Lanka Customs generated a remarkable Rs. 236.5 billion in revenue — the largest monthly collection achieved so far this year.

The strong revenue growth is expected to provide a significant boost to government finances at a time when the country continues efforts to stabilize the economy and strengthen public revenue streams.

Customs authorities attributed the increase to enhanced operational efficiency, tighter enforcement measures, and a gradual recovery in trade-related activities.
