Heavy rains and adverse weather conditions continuing across Sri Lanka have affected 3,475 people from 1,113 families in seven districts, according to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).

Authorities said 1,310 individuals belonging to 489 families have been relocated to eight temporary safety shelters as emergency relief and response operations continue in the affected areas.

The DMC also confirmed one weather-related death reported from Koralepatthu South in the Batticaloa District due to the prevailing adverse conditions.

As of today (14), a total of 88 houses and one business establishment had sustained partial damage as a result of the inclement weather.

Officials have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant and follow safety instructions issued by local authorities as heavy rainfall is expected to continue in several parts of the country.
