The Department of Meteorology has issued a red warning for heavy rainfall affecting several parts of the country amid continuing adverse weather conditions.

The warning will remain in effect until 8.30 AM tomorrow (15).

According to the Department, the low-pressure system located northeast of Sri Lanka continues to influence weather conditions around the island and is expected to gradually weaken and move away within the next 36 hours.

The Department warned that heavy rainfall exceeding 100mm is likely in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Kandy District, Nuwara Eliya District, Galle District and Matara District.

The public has been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to minimize risks and damages caused by heavy rain, strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
