Speaking at the Nuwara Eliya District Special Coordination Committee meeting, the President noted that the price of a litre of diesel in the country has risen to Rs. 720, mainly due to increases in the global fuel market.
However, he pointed out that the government is currently providing a subsidy of around Rs. 100 per litre, enabling diesel to be sold to the public at Rs. 392 per litre.
The President further said that this subsidy burden has resulted in significant financial losses for the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), warning that the current pricing structure is not sustainable in the long term.
