According to the CAA, a total of 7,334 raids and investigations were conducted between January and the end of April this year to protect consumers and ensure a fair trading environment.
Legal action was initiated against traders found violating consumer laws, resulting in courts imposing fines amounting to Rs. 89.6 million.
The highest number of raids were conducted in the Kurunegala District with 654 operations, followed by Colombo (519), Puttalam (511), Kandy (502), and Matale (439).
The authority stated that special attention was given to the quality, safety, and fixed prices of essential consumer goods frequently used by the public. These included rice, sugar, biscuits, soft drinks, bottled drinking water, cosmetics, and electrical items such as sockets and wire cords.
The CAA also urged consumers to report unfair trade activities, the sale of substandard products, and pricing-related issues through its 1977 hotline during office hours.
