A Grade 12 student of a leading government school in Eppawala has allegedly attacked five fellow students with a sharp weapon following a dispute, police said.
The injured students, all from the school’s Advanced Level Technology stream, were admitted to the Eppawala Divisional Hospital for treatment. Hospital sources confirmed that their condition is not critical.
According to police, the suspect is also a Grade 12 student, attached to the school’s Science stream. Investigations have revealed that a disagreement had reportedly taken place several days earlier between the suspect and one of the injured students.
The situation had allegedly escalated into a confrontation, during which the suspect is said to have carried out the attack using a sharp weapon. Four other students were reportedly injured while attempting to intervene and prevent the assault.
The suspect was arrested by the Eppawala Police along with the weapon believed to have been used in the incident,
Police are continuing further investigations into the incident.
