The forum was officially launched in Parliament with the objective of promoting sustainable use of both marine and terrestrial ecosystems while encouraging greater public awareness on environmental protection. As policymakers, members of the forum emphasized the importance of setting an example for the public by actively supporting environmentally responsible policies and practices.
Members of the SJB Environmental Forum also expressed their intention to collaborate with international environmental organizations in order to gain new knowledge and expertise on global environmental challenges. The forum aims to utilize this knowledge in strengthening Sri Lanka’s policy-making process and advancing sustainable environmental governance in the country.
The initiative comes at a time when climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation continue to pose serious threats worldwide, highlighting the need for stronger political commitment toward conservation and sustainability.
