Kesbewa records highest rainfall in the past 22 hours

The Department of Meteorology says the highest rainfall recorded during the past 22 hours was 204 millimetres in the Kesbewa area.

According to the department, the Gampaha District also experienced significant rainfall, with Veyangoda receiving 145.5 mm and Wathupitiwala recording 105.5 mm of rain.

In Ratnapura District, Gilimale received 121 mm of rainfall, while in Kalutara District, Bandaragama recorded 102.5 mm and Horana received 101.5 mm.

Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology has issued a warning for heavy rainfall affecting the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North Western, Northern, and North Central Provinces, as well as the districts of Trincomalee, Galle, and Matara.

The department further stated that more than 200 mm of very heavy rainfall could occur today (13) in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in the districts of Puttalam, Galle, and Matara.

Meteorological officials noted that the prevailing rainy conditions are expected to continue due to a low-pressure area located close to the island.
